Is 'It' all over?3.17.2008
It's every woman's worst nightmare...

You've spent ages searching for the right frock, you've co-ordinated jewellery and accessories within an inch of your life, donned your five inch heels and slapped on the lipgloss ready to turn heads at that all important party as soon as you enter the room. But horror of horrors, already tucking into a canape and glass of bubbly, is some other woman wearing YOUR dress?

Instantly you try to use the clutch to hide the billowing gown even though everyone has already noticed there are two identical frocks in the room and they are already sizing up who wears it best.

So why is it a curl up and die moment when someone else is wearing the same dress, but not when they are carrying the same bag?

In recent years, the "It" bag has come to the fore, if the editor of Vogue had it one week, Sienna Miller had it the next and Lily Allen followed soon after that. Wags were papped with the next hot bag to hit the catwalks and the High Street rushed to put thousands of cheap copies on the shelf.

But it appears the bubble is beginning to burst. Those with sway in the fashion industry are apparently becoming fed up with seeing teenage girls dancing around a knock-off version of the latest Louis Vuitton and are looking elsewhere for inspiration.

Lesser-known independent labels and designers who care about creativity, exclusivity and even the environment are about to have their day as the "It" bag sees its demise....finally it could be a fashion faux pas to be carrying the same little black bag instead of wearing the same little black dress.
